Dr. Chief Dele Jane Osawe

August 2, 1948 – July 10, 2007

“A woman of valor who can find, her price is far beyond rubies”.

Proverbs 30:10

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I write to inform the Bechol Lashon community of the passing of Dr. Chief Dele Jane Osawe on July 10, 2007. Dele was born on August 2, 1948 in the Yoruba area of Delta State Nigeria. She was Chief of her village in Ejeme Unor, the mother of six children, grandmother of two, and loving wife of Bruce Carey.

Chief Osawe battled with liver cancer for eight months. She fought a valiant fight with grace and dignity befitting a woman of valor. In the face of this grave illness, Dele never appeared hopeless and never complained about her condition. In fact, Dele’s passion for life kept her in our midst longer than, doctors predicted, she would live. Through the Mercy of Hashem she lived long enough to walk on her native soil and to be greeted by many of her relatives.

At Dele’s request, in lieu of flowers, please make all contributions to Beth Shalom B’nai Zaken, memo: Dele Jane Osawe Ejeme School Fund. Your contribution will assist us in fulfilling Dele’s dream of completing a synagogue and school in her home village.
