provides not only an opportunity for camaraderie and friendship amongst the brothers, but also provides an opportunity to work together to insure blessed and peaceful Holy Days.
We protect our women, children and visitors by providing assistance and security at all congregational functions. Anshay Chayil also provides opportunities for education,
such as
Hebrew classes, classes for the Gabbaim, and studies in history as they relate to our Israelite ancestry. Members of the brotherhood make it their duty to visit with
the elders and provide
support
and assistance at all times.
Through fund raisers during the year, we work to assist our congregation by being an additional source of financial support. All adult males in the congregation are
strongly encouraged
to join
and help make Anshay Chayil an important part of Beth Shalom
B’nai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation. Our motto is simple: "With the Most High we can, in the spirit of love we will" |

After defining the group's purpose, financial contribution, the rules upon which the group
would be guided, Nashe Or (Women of Light) was born. The name Nashe Or was decided
upon because it was our desire to be a ray of light for each other, our families, our congregation, and our nation.
The following month five more sisters eagerly joined our ranks, officers were elected and
we refined our purpose. We want to provide community service, to develop ourselves spiritually, personally and professionally and to build strong sisterly relationships.
Today we have grown to more than 30 members encompassing young adult-age sisters to
elders in their 80's. We are proud of our accomplishments which include
sponsoring a city-wide sisterhood social and in 1996 we instituted the first annual Brotherhood Appreciation Day
designed to honor the men of our temple. We have
sponsored numerous fund-raisers, from
a Tom Thumb Wedding, cakewalks, and published our own cookbook to name a few. We
were proud to finance the remodeling of the temple's kitchen.
On Holy days, we plan and prepare the feast, we also plan Purim and Hanukkah parties
to involve and further orient our children to our rich history and culture. We
have sponsored
guest speakers who have given Nashe Or insight into spirituality, prayer, and cleansing with
herbs and diet. We have grown and shared with each
other through the discussion of books
and topics that affect the Israelite Woman of the 90's.
Our motto, "Strong sisters make strong sisters stronger, by building bridges to understanding," embodies how we feel about ourselves. |

Nashe Or President’s Message
“Nashe Or,” which means “Women of Light,” has been striving for the last 11 years to be the
light and bridge of the congregation, to bring life, love, order, and funds to our home, Beth
Shalom B’nai Zaken Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation.
I have been blessed along with our past presidents to work with a group of sisters who have an abundance of love and understanding of family and community.
Please feel free to visit us again during out regular Shabath service or one of our Nashe Or Sisterhood meetings. We always welcome those eager to learn, work, and become a part of
our family. Remember, as our motto states, “Strong Sisters Make Strong Sisters Stronger, by Building Bridges to Understanding.”
